JEN BEKMAN CHAMPIONS EMERGING ARTISTS
Jen Bekman opened her pocket-sized gallery on the Lower East Side nearly five years ago, with the mission of supporting emerging artists and collectors, and she's made a name for herself doing just that. Hey, Hot Shot! is the premier competition program for emerging photographers.
HEY, HOT SHOT! GROUP SHOW
Twice a year, our rock-star panel reviews entries from emerging photographers all over the world, culminating in the selection of five Hot Shots. The five winning photographers participate in the Hey, Hot Shot! Showcase, a two-week exhibition at Jen Bekman Gallery. Kicking off with hugely popular opening receptions, these showcases are attended by collectors, critics, and cognoscenti. Each winner receives a $500 honorarium to put towards travel, framing, or any other exhibition related expenses.
HEY, HOT SHOT! - THE ULTRAS
At the end of the year, Jen Bekman personally selects two photographers, we CALL them the Ultras, from among the year's Hey, Hot Shot! winners. The Ultras receive continuing representation from Jen Bekman Gallery. Represented artists get a broad array of opportunities; media exposure, participation in group exhibitions and art fairs, opportunities to have their work published in books and/or monographs are just a sampling of the possibilities.
HEY, HOT SHOT! - GO SOLO
Each Ultra will go on to have a solo exhibition at Jen Bekman Gallery within two years of their selection. This is a full-length exhibition. Solo exhibitions at Jen Bekman Gallery have been reviewed by publications like The New Yorker, The New York Times, Der Spiegel and Le Monde. Work from these exhibitions is often acquired by important collections, both institutional and private.
JEN BEKMAN GALLERY
Over the past five years, Jen Bekman has shown the work of hundreds of artists at all stages of their careers. The gallery's innovative group exhibitions have placed the work of emerging artists alongside acclaimed photographers including Stephen Shore, Alec Soth, Todd Hido and Mitch Epstein. Many of the rising stars in the photography world have had critically acclaimed solo debuts at the gallery. Groundbreaking projects such as 20x200 round out the gallery's commitment to artists and collectors. Exhibitions at Jen Bekman Gallery have been critic's picks on Artforum.com and in publications such as The New Yorker and The Village Voice.
